EDMONTON, Alberta — This year’s PGA of Alberta Senior Championship, sponsored by Golf Vacations Ireland and MKRAK Management Inc., will take place at the world-class Derrick Golf and Winter Clubin Edmonton on September 9-10. The Derrick’s championship golf course, newly redesigned by Jeff Mingay, has a distinct layout reminiscent of classic course architecture of the 1930s. Defending Champion Michael Hogan of the Glencoe G&CC Teaching Centre will lead a field of 30 of Alberta’s top professional golfers, all looking to stop Hogan from winning back-to-back Championships.
Hogan won last year’s Championship by two strokes with first and second round scores of 73-66, for a two day total of 3-under 139 at Willow Park G&CC. Sitting tied for third after round one, Hogan’s 5-under 66 performance on day two sealed the deal for his fourth Senior Championship win (2014, 2008, 2007, & 2005). Finishing alone in third at 144 (2-over) was Gary Ward who will look to win his first Senior Championship.
Key players expected to contend with Hogan and Ward will be two time Senior Championship winner in 2013 & 2011 Scott Allred of Elbow Springs GC, 2012 Senior Championship winner and 2015 Club Pro Championship winner Darryl James of National Golf Academy at Shaganappi, Kevin Day of Billy D’s Golf Center, Cameron Code of Edson GC, Blair Oko of Blair Oko Golf Academy, and Ron Laugher of Priddis Greens G&CC.
